Hydrafacial, Dermaplaning or Consultation: How to Choose Your First Treatment
May 2026 · 6 min read · By Lisa, Mindfulness Beauty
You do not need to understand the full treatment menu before booking your first facial. You only need to know what you want help with: dullness, dryness, congestion, peach fuzz, sensitivity, or simply not knowing where to start.
The simple answer for most beginners
Signature Hydrafacial is often the easiest first facial because it gives Lisa a gentle way to cleanse, exfoliate, extract, and hydrate while seeing how your skin responds. It is a practical starter choice if you want skin to feel cleaner, fresher, and less congested without heavy downtime.
That does not make it right for everyone. The best first treatment depends on your skin on the day, your goals, and whether anything needs calming first.
First-treatment guide
| Choose | Best for | Beginner note |
|---|---|---|
| Signature Hydrafacial | Congestion, dullness, dehydration, first facial confidence | A strong all-round starting point for many new clients. |
| Dermaplaning | Peach fuzz, make-up prep, rough surface texture, event polish | Best when skin is calm and not actively inflamed. |
| Consultation-led plan | Sensitivity, active breakouts, texture, acne marks, too many products | Useful when the right first step is not obvious. |
Choose Hydrafacial if...
- Your skin feels dull, dehydrated, oily, or congested.
- You want a proper cleanse and glow without choosing stronger treatments first.
- You are nervous and want a treatment Lisa can adapt as she goes.
Choose dermaplaning if...
- Your main concern is peach fuzz or make-up not sitting smoothly.
- Your skin is calm, with no active raised breakouts, cold sores, or irritation.
- You want a polished result before an event and can follow simple aftercare.
Choose a consultation-led route if...
Start with guidance if you have active acne, a recent reaction, rosacea or eczema flare-ups, broken skin, medication that affects the skin, or a routine that already feels too strong. Lisa may still recommend a facial, but it should be the right treatment at the right time.
If acne is moderate, severe, painful, or leaving marks, speak to a pharmacist or GP as well as asking for skincare support. Facials can support how skin feels and looks, but they do not replace medical acne care when that is needed.
